Beautiful Biomes!

I promised the students I would post their biomes and did not have a chance to do that before the end of the school year... so here they are now.  They did a wonderful job with this project.  They worked hard doing their research so they could include plants and animals that belong in their biome.  They look so realistic!  I hope you are having a relaxing summer and I wish all the students the best when they return to school.

We Love to Read Month!

April is "We Love to Read" month.  Our class has been participating in many reading events this month! Thank you to all of the mystery readers who came into our classroom to read once a week during snack time this month.  Also, a special congratulations to the 3 students from  our class who participated in the OQS spelling bee:  Natalie Ingenloff, Noah Lamontagne, andSophia Ofstad.  They should be very proud of their outstanding spelling skills.  Please take a look at the pictures below that capture a couple of other special reading events students from 5M participated in this month.

Iditarod 2015!

It has been an exciting month in 5M!  The students studied the Iditarod dogsled race, which takes place in Alaska, and began on the first weekend in March.  Each student researched a musher and then followed that musher throughout the race.  Students would come into the classroom every morning, eager to grab a laptop to see where their musher was in the race. Along with their musher's place in the race, the students were very interested in the sled dog team of their musher. We were fortunate to have a local dogsled team come and visit OQS. The students got to pet the dogs and learn how they are harnessed to the sleds. As you can see, it was a very fun day getting to know the dogs!

Phases of the Moon Never Tasted So Good!

In science, students have been learning about the phases of the moon.  On Friday, they created each phase of the moon using Oreo cookies.  Below you will find their creations. After they wrote about each phase of the moon it was time to gobble up those cookies... lots of fun!
